These people did not appear remote or from the ancient past; they were my own generation. Because they were naked, they were not imprisoned in their own age by time-bound fashions. On the contrary, their hair and the set of their faces were entirely in the style of my own time. They were me, and people I knew.

If we want to make the world better, we have to figure out how to do it ourselves. If we want to cure disease, we have to come up with antibiotics and vaccines and not prayer. AnonymousGirl Did it ever occur to you that your daughter might not believe so strongly in God and the Bible as much as you think she does? I dated a guy who pretended to be a devout Roman Catholic because of how strict my parents are when it comes to dating. Later, I found out that he’s not religious at all. That’s when I was really, really religious.
At least this guy is being real with her about his beliefs. She obviously likes this guy more than she likes the Bible or she wouldn’t be with him. Now I’m dating a guy who has a Muslim upbringing and I have a Christian upbringing, but neither upbringing gets in the way of our relationship. His parents found out he was dating me, but that didn’t stop him from dating me. If my parents find out about him, that won’t stop me from dating him. Perhaps it is the same for your daughter and her boyfriend.
Atheist dating a Christian – How does that work?
You know as a parent that you can’t dictate to her feelings. If you are totally inflexible you will alienate your daughter, all the more. You miss her far too much to do that. She is as strong-willed as you are. Where do you think she gets it from? You have not mentioned her age, so we’ll assume she is in her 20’s.

She’s also a Christian and reasonably, I don’t know the right words, active? You might have noticed already and the thread title probs gave it away , that my background is very non religious, I grew up in a non religious family, never went to church and only really have vague recollections of the Lord’s Prayer from having to recite it in a monotone burble every morning during primary school.
At this point in my life I am a fairly staunch atheist in the sense that I do not believe in God, creation, none of it, I think prayer solves a problem only in as much as it might make you feel safer but really as an adult, you should try to move away from such crutches, though obviously self reflection etc.
I appreciate what I just said might sound offensive, but I just want to explain my position as clearly as possible, in reality I do try and adopt a ‘live and let live’ attitude and I would never confront someone about their religious beliefs. As far as between us, we’re still both very much in the infatuation stage, so my thoughts about her are all very gushy but I do, or did, think that the relationship had long term potential.
I’m not exactly looking to settle down, but I’m at the stage where I’d take it, or at least take the potential and see what could happen. With this girl, like I said I could definitely see the potential. We clicked instantly, it seemed almost too easy from the get go, we share a lot of things in common from music to our philosophies on life and it seemed to be endless until I got a few hints that actually our core beliefs might be a little out of sync, sometimes you tend to overlook these things when you’re in this stage I think.
Anyway, we were chatting and I was noticing that occasionally she would mention guilty feelings from doing things which were just fun, this set off a little bit of a flag to me, I already knew she’d spent a long time during her formative years growing up in the US, in part of the Bible Belt. Then she later dropped a bit of a clanger about praying to God for the answer to something.

True, I don’t know. However, I do know that scripture does asks those very same questions you asked me The brother or the sister is not bound in such circumstances; God has called us to live in peace. Or, how do you know, husband, whether you will save your wife? This is not implying you have some foresight of the future Combine 1 Corinthians 7: We can’t see the future so don’t try to stick around the unbelieving spouse.
The questions you gave me.. But if her husband dies, she is free to marry anyone she wishes, but he must belong to the Lord. Look, couldn’t it be possible that your just want to get married really bad and have settled. Maybe, you just want a father and husband in your family and have grown a bit desperate. I think that’s what MAY be going on here. Also, another thread posted this video and I think its helpful. No, at the time I prayed to God I was not in any hurry to find a partner, infact it was the time I was definately not looking for one and didn’t need one in my life and did not expect one be sent so quickly, it was more a for the future prayer.

Many people think that Christian dating is an exclusive thing, a club where only members are allowed. To a certain extent, this is true, since the whole point of Christian dating is for Christians to meet other Christians and potentially start a relationship. However, no one will kick you out from a Christian dating website, a Christian club or any other group, just because you are not a Christian yourself. The whole point of Christianity is to spread the love and the world of Jesus.
But as we said earlier, that is a misconception because those websites are open to all and people will be glad to meet you.

Friday, December 9, Christian parents of atheist or agnostic children Update as of May 22, There is now a support group on Facebook for parents who find themselves in this position. It’s not a large group I just created it yesterday , but if you’re interested you can find it here: There is also a corresponding group for the unbelieving “children” regardless of actual age, obviously here: But it seems worthwhile to look at this topic again, only this time specifically in terms of family relationships.
Before I jump in, I’d like to point out some other resources that might also be helpful: Friendly Evangelism – a while back, I wrote a series of posts on how Christians can talk to ex-Christians and non-Christians without driving them away, starting arguments, or giving offense.
